About Me
I am 29 years old, originally from Orange County, California. After graduating from UCLA in 2003, I worked for a little over 3 years in as an Account Executive for a Subprime Mortgage Lending Company in Orange County right at the height of the Mortgage boom. After a few fruitful years, things started to really slow down and it became apparent this business was not something I would be doing forever so I figured I would take advantage of my youth and savings that I had amassed during the good years and set out to experience other countries and learn new languages along the way. My first excursion was down to Brasil, as I spent 3 months in Florianopolis, 2 months in Rio De Janiero, and the other 2 months visiting other cities up and down the coast. After returning to California for a brief stint in summer 2007, I realized the real estate market in general had soured even more during my time away. I worked a little bit in debt settlement and also utilized the California real Estate License I had to continue brokering mortgage, but this time on the retail side as my own brokerage with another partner. Although I had already learned Portuguese, it didn’t really serve much purpose in California, apart from the occasional encounter with native Brasilians that were baffled and impressed that someone actually knew their native tongue.
Since Spanish and Portuguese are written similarly and share many grammatical rules, I already had a head start on Spanish, which is much more useful in California due to the huge Hispanic population. So I set off on yet another journey to find a Spanish Speaking country where I could live a while, learn the language, and have a blast in the meantime. I traveled through parts of Mexico, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Argentina before finally settling in Colombia. Medellin in particular had come highly recommended from fellow travelers and friends that had been here. Upon touching down I could sense this was the place for me. The city and the standard of living in the nice parts of town are as nice or nicer than any other Latin American City I had visited, the people were all very friendly, the women are beautiful, and the cost of living is great. Being from California I am very spoiled in terms of weather so this has always been a major factor whenever I decide where to visit and Medellin has better weather than I ever could have imagined. With the unique combination of being located near the equator and an altitude close to 1 mile above sea level, Medellin has been coined the city of Eternal Spring due ti its moderate and almost never changing weather. A typical day consists of around highs of 85 in the day and nighttime temperatures around 70, with occasional rain for an hour or so in the late afternoons before clearing up at night.
I’ve been Living here for about 2 1/2 years now and in addition to managing Medellin Rentals I do Search Engine Optimization for websites and general internet marketing for clients such as this 401k Benefits site for a client in the US and this Private Security site that I made for a British company that recently expanded into Colombia. I have also invested some money in an Accounts Receivable Factoring Fund run by a good friend of mine that is very secure and returns an average of about 15% per year. I started Medellin Vacation Rentals about 3 years ago but then I eased up on this business when I left in 2009 to oversee a gold buying and selling operation in the Congo and Dubai. I arrived back to Medellin at the beginning of 2010 and decided to dedicate my time to the apartment and car rental businesses here in Medellin.
